I also think that the illustration of the noise really helped to tell the story by giving the bigger picture of what it was like for those people. I would rate this book 8.5/10 as there was a constant cliff-hanger and an urge to continue reading all throughout the book. This is one of the many reasons I loved the talking dog, he was always happy and optimistic. He is always loyal and was always there for Todd, never giving up and always wagging his tail. My favourite character in this story is Manchee- Todd’s talking dog. The story is told through his eyes and how he feels betrayed and heartbroken after he finds out his life is a lie and his parents died trying to protect him. He was sent on the run by his adoptive parents - Ben and Cillian - after his noise about the silence is heard by everyone else, accompanied only by his loyal dog Manchee and the first girl he’s ever seen- Viola.

The protagonist of the book is Todd, a soon to be man who is the last boy in Prentisstown. This novel is about a boy named Todd who was born into a world of constant, overwhelming noise, and when he stumbles across a spot of complete silence, he has to flee across the boundary marking his town from all the rest.

The knife of never letting go is a dystopian thriller book that had me clinging on until the end, and then had me straight in reading the next book.
